Small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) mostly rely on Managed Service Providers (MSPs) to partner with for their information technology needs. This includes IT infrastructure, hardware and software support, cybersecurity and general business operations support. Because MSPs are so critical to the success of SMBs, the National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence (NCCoE) continues to develop resources to help MSPs.
One of the NCCoE's recent projects is called Improving Cybersecurity of Managed Service Providers. This is something near and dear to me as you know, if you follow my blog. Today, the NCCoE released a quick planning guide for MSPs to help minimize data loss resulting from ransomware, hardware failure or other incidents which could result in the accidental or intentional loss of business data. There is also a more detailed guide available here.
These new tools offer recommendations that MSPs should be considering to protect their customers. The tools are a starting point, which may be customized to meet the unique needs of each MSP.
If you are an MSP, I encourage you to check out these and other resources located at the NIST Small Business Cybersecurity Corner.
NIST and the NCCoE are very interested in feedback on the usefulness of these tools as well as suggestions for additional tools that may be helpful for MSPs. If you have feedback or suggestions, please email email@example.com.
