Today is a good day to reflect on the state of our world. I would hazard a guess that Martin Luther King, Jr. would be a bit disappointed in where we are as fellow human beings.
The world is an unsettled place these days. From divisive nationalistic politics to geopolitical tensions that border on open hostilities, we have a long way to go to realize his Dream in all its possibility.
We are all more alike than we are different. We all put our pants on one leg at time. We all breathe the same air and inhabit the same planet. We have a responsibility to grow, as a human race, beyond the petty hatreds we allow to permeate our societies.
I am not naive. This is no small task. But it is a task we must complete and do so successfully if we are to survive and avoid extinction at our own misguided hands. Do I know what the answer is to realize this outcome? I do not. I only know that I hope to see this in my lifetime so that I know my children will inherit a world worthy of them and their descendants. We owe it to one another to defeat the forces that would want any other future for the human race.
Let's honor the memory of MLK, Jr. and others like him who share the selfless desire for a better world for every living being.
